Hardesty Farms and Greenhouse

Hardesty Farms and Greenhouses is a first-generation family farm that was started in 2001. They raise beef cattle, tobacco transplants, poinsettias, spring flowers, vegetable plants, horse & cattle hay, and fresh local produce.

F.L. Sipes Farm

Fred Sipes raises tobacco, soybeans, corn, wheat, hay, produce, and beef cattle in Ekron, Ky. Fred is dedicated to conserving the land and water on his farm for the next generation of farmers. He has reduced soil erosion and improved water quality by installing grassed waterways, planting cover crops, and implementing crop rotations and no-till practices on his land. He uses rotational grazing practices to feed his cattle. These conservation practices have improved soil health and wildlife habitat found on the farm.  

Barr Farms

Barr Farms is a seventh-generation farm located in Rhodelia, Kentucky that has been in the family since 1835. Since the start, the focus has been on taking care of the soil and producing great products. Adam Barr & Rae Strobel are continuing those practices. This 260-acre farm is certified organic, and if you get the chance to visit, you might just come upon chickens, cattle, and over 40 different varieties of vegetables. Barr Farms supplies to restaurants and sells at three Louisville farmers markets.

F. L. Sipes Farms Wins 2021 Leopold Conservation Award

Farming land his grandmother once owned, Fred L. Sipes says he’s a caretaker of a precious resource. Fred began growing 50 acres of burley tobacco, fresh out of high school in 1994. Even then, conservation was important to him. He knew consistent improvement and diversification would be critical to his farm’s survival.
