Farm Profiles

Halk Pike Acres

Half Pike Acres is located in Owingsville. This family farm originally was a dairy, but Fred and Darla Mann had a different idea when they moved to restore it. They grow quality produce, eggs, and meat for their family and community while rejuvenating the land and soil. The 40-acre farm is home to chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits, milking goats, and guardian dogs, and that’s only naming a few! These animals have a special role in keeping the land in tip-top shape.

In addition to the animals, Half Pike Acres also consists of a 100-foot greenhouse and market garden. Here they grow a number of vegetables and beautiful flowers for their bouquets. Just as the livestock play a role in the health of the land, the flowers attract beneficial insects and birds to pollinate. Some of these flowers can be purchased as whole plants—think gorgeous begonias and petunias! You can also buy basil and herb plants, many different varieties of tomato plants, and unique pepper plants. Plus, the produce feeds their family and community, and what is left goes to the animals. You can also catch them at the Bath County, KY, Farmers Market during the open season.

Hickory Hollow Acres

Being one of the more unique Kentucky farms, Hickory Hollow Acres focuses on one animal - goats! They sell their goats to other farms and raise them for meat.
